An Autumn Sun is a scoring slice of Kingston Souil - hot and sweet, so sweet you almost expect a young Gregory Isaacs or John Holt to pop up and start making love to the mic. Bob Birch’s organ declaims a buzzing horn-style intro before dropping into a more manly register and seductive pace, building heat from below. Neil Innes’s bass tilts its head to Philadelphia, and Chris Dawkins’s guitar is happy to provide sunshine and good times. In between, the drums are dancing – putting the passion into this love letter. Sam Hobbs plays like he’s spent a lifetime playing Rocksteady, New Orleans Funk, Tropicalia, Soca… which is verynearly true, by this point. The time of the drums islovely on this track – not abeat out of place, and yet also very little repetition – just a sea cruise through Caribbean rhythm, with a very steady hand at the tiller: no ripples in this wake.My one complaint about this track is that it should be three times longer: it’s as good as a day at the beach, and better than medicine.
